Many people hear about disability and think about physical impairment like quadriplegia which hinders someone capacity to work. Mental illnesses disability is a limiting like physical ailments in blocking someone from living a normal stable life. For this case, the social security administration (SSA) can approve for a long-term mental illness disability coverage.

The SSA defines long-term disability hindrance which can either several years or will end in death. For a case of mental illness disability, a person who suffers psychiatric disorder will suffer for the rest of her or his life. However, therapy and medication to assist in managing the symptoms. Therefore when a person has a mental illness, he or she needs to visit a psychiatrist to get help and necessary medication to live a normal life.

When talking about mental illness, it is crucial to realize psychiatric disorder such as emotional and psychological problems. Furthermore, SSA knows the difference between nuclear mental issues and diseases. Organic mental issues are accompanied by the functioning of the brain, which is always demonstrated through diagnostic testing. Hallucination and memory impairment are examples of ecological illness problems. According to the list of SSA’s of disability condition, mental retardation can be caused by congenital disabilities and injuries.

Mental disorder is known to have the same issues, but their symptoms differ from one person to another. This symptom can develop or show up unexpectedly or suddenly. Additionally, mental illness may results in paranoia and delusions in one person but suicidal, and depression thought in another. This makes it hard to determine the level of each person’s mental illness disability.

The most commonly diagnosed mental illness include Schizophrenia, anxiety, and mood disorders. Anxiety disorder includes phobias and panic attacks that interfere with the capacity of the brain to function. On the other hand, mood-affective diseases include bipolar and depression disorder that is treatable with medication. Schizophrenia is harder to deal with because the researchers do not know whether it is a singular illness or group of problem. Since people do not understand mental disorder well, it is hard to prove or conclude that mental impairment is a disability.
